BEARD TRANSPLANT

What is a beard implant?

A beard transplant is just that: Hair is taken from one part of the body and transplanted to your jawline and wherever you want your beard to grow.

That sounds simple enough, but it’s a rather involved process.

  • Follicular unit extraction (FUE). This approach is done by harvesting complete follicular units one at a time from the donor area. FUE is less painful, which may explain why it’s the more commonly performed procedure

ADVANTAGES OF BEARD TRANSPLANTATION

The person can have a bushy and natural-looking beard with beard transplantation.
After the operation, the person can shave and shape his beard.
Beard transplantation planning is carried out according to the person’s face type to provide an aesthetic appearance.
The person is free to choose the type of beard he will have.
It is also possible to shape sideburns with hair/beard transplantation.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE BEARD TRANSPLANT OPERATION?

Beard transplantation applied to men who have never had a beard, suffer from a thin beard, or have lost their beard in an area due to an injury. It is also useful in covering scars and burns. It is recommended to wait until age 22 to have beard transplantation. After the doctor’s examination, it can be decided whether beard transplantation can be performed on people with hormonal disorders, heart diseases, and diabetes.

PROCESS AND HEALING AFTER BEARD TRANSPLANTATION

After the beard and moustache transplantation, there is no sizeable visible scar, and the healing process is speedy. Temporary symptoms such as redness, swelling, and dryness may occur, but these symptoms disappear entirely within a few days.

Unlike hair transplantation, since the transplanted area is the face and the face is more sensitive, there may be swelling in the first 2-3 days. However, these symptoms are minimized with the patient’s compliance with the recommendations after the process, medicine use and ice applications.

Post-operative pain is not a common condition in patients who are followed up. Sleeping position is one of the most critical situations. As the face is treated in operation, the patient should lie in the appropriate position and not harm the transplanted grafts..

It may take up to 1 week for the person to return to work after the operation. Although there is no medical problem related to returning to work after 2-3 days, we recommend that the patient make a business plan to rest for at least one week after the surgery.

It will also prevent himself from prying eyes and questions related to his appearance, due to his reservations. During this period, the skin will be healed, and beards will grow and form, swelling and redness will decrease.

The period of 2-3 weeks will satisfy the patient, make him receive positive feedback from around, and understand that he has made the right decision by having the operation.

However, there will be a period of shedding for a brief time in the transplanted hair follicles in the area where beard transplantation is performed. Patients may lose up to 50-80% of the beard follicles transplanted during this period. However, as of the 3rd and 4th months, this transplanted hair will begin to grow again. The chart below shows the process in detail.

HOW MANY GRAFTS WILL I NEED FOR BEARD TRANSPLANTATION?

Although the graft calculation for beard transplantation varies from patient to patient, it will vary according to face type, current beard condition, patient desire, and beard style. In our clinic, the area to be transplanted is measured before the operation.

The required density is calculated according to the thinness and thickness of the hair taken from the person. This number of grafts from the patient’s safe donor area affects the quality of beard transplantation.
